Is it finally happening?
Are these the weeks…like the first stones from the Berlin Wall…that the Covid Regime began to crumble?
It started when Canadian truckers started chiseling the concrete. As cracks formed and the mortar gave way, other drivers hopped in their cabs, started their engines, and plowed through.
Below the 49th parallel other wrecking balls began to swing, blasting the barricade with the power of photos.
In one, the Governor of California is caught maskless with Magic Johnson, while standing in a state where he requires everyone else to cover their face.
In another, the Governor of New York stands barefaced behind several masked children, as if she’s filming a ransom video to their parents. That photo was from last summer, but the timing isn’t important. She’d do it again, and has.
The final blow came last week, when the Democratic candidate for Georgia Governor was seen seated and smiling in front of a class of small kids, with all the children under veiled visages.
For the Covid Cult, the release of these sordid scenes may have been the day the music died. If nothing else, it finally forced them to change their tune.
Within days, even the most dictatorial governors announced that state mask mandates would drop. Across the blue landscape, faces would finally be free.
Their pronouncements poured forth in almost eerie simultaneity. They seemed carefully coordinated, as if a memo went out (which it no doubt did). Leave it to these scoundrels do coat welcome news in a creepy veneer.
In Canada, Alberta and Saskatchewan will eliminate their hideous “vaccine passport“ program. This is a wonderful reversal. But still stunning…like AA suddenly offering wine tastings or hosting happy hours. Across the pond, the trucker convoy that started in Canada is coming to France.
Yet, nice as all this is to see, it’s not enough. Every two-bit idiotic, superstitious, deranged “mitigation measure”…from floor stickers to plexiglass to vaccine passports…needs to be rolled back and packed away. And not in two weeks.
Now.
All Covid restrictions, mandates, and customs need to be rescinded. Those who encouraged or implemented them need to be placed in the dock and called to account. These despots unilaterally imposed these measures on us, without a single vote from any legislature (that those bodies didn’t interpose on their citizens’ behalf is a separate stain on their legacy).
Governors, “public health” hacks, and state-sponsored pseudo-“scientists” can’t be allowed to gaslight us by saying their “public health” policies “worked”, or to in any way conjure the gall to claim credit for controlling Covid.
These people may be vile, but they’re not stupid. They read the political wind, and now fear an electoral whirlwind. But we can’t let them pretend that the outrages they inflicted never occurred, or that they were somehow warranted or legitimate.
Nor can we allow them to shift their stance by simply asserting that “the science” changed. Of course it did. It has all along…usually into what the rest of us were saying a year ago.
We need more than apologies (which we won’t get). We need admissions of guilt, articles of impeachment, criminal trials, and full retribution. Those who usurped power, corrupted science, destroyed cities, ruined economies, and warped society can never be allowed to do this again, or be placed in positions where they could.
Of course, none of that will happen. It never happens. Politicians, bureaucrats, and technocratic officials have spent decades dropping bombs, counterfeiting currency, greasing palms, spying on citizens, ripping us off, and enriching themselves.
But there are rarely consequences. The perpetrators land a new gig and get another payoff…as a lobbyist, pundit, or honorary member of some connected corporate board. The atrocities of their past are dismissed with shrugs and winks, as inevitable mistakes inevitable in the course of “public service”.
But the destruction these “servants” cause is immense, and suffered by others. It costs lives, destroys societies, and corrodes the culture. Millions of ordinary people have been psychologically damaged and irretrievably broken by the incessant propaganda their “leaders” propound.
Many Americans still resist efforts to lift the siege. Some seem to insist on being gagged, confined, and bossed around the rest of their lives. They want to be told where they can go, what fabric they must put on their face, and what drug they must inject in their arm.
Many are in the highly educated “laptop” class. Infested with irrational fear and a distorted desire for unattainable safety, most are able to stay home and work remote…content with their indoor pets, Zoom calls, streaming videos, and DoorDash delivery.
But they seem to resent the millions of people who long ago relegated Covid to just another risk. The hypochondriacs despise watching regular people resume normal activities…venturing out, seeing friends, joining crowds, and enjoying their lives.
It’s bizarre and sad that some people apparently don’t want Covid to end, and are upset that their political saviors are relaxing control. It’s as if the American hostages begged the Ayatollah to take them back. I can’t fathom how so many Americans can reject being free.
Yet, the neurotics notwithstanding, skies do seem to be clearing. But are the rays of hope real? Is the light legitimate?
We’ve had many moments of broken promises and dashed desire. But this feels different, like the walls of reality are really closing in on the Covid cult.
As patience thins, data pours in, and real science becomes irrefutable, the most prominent lunatics are beginning to relent. Governors of California, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Oregon have announced the removal of mask mandates. Even Illinois and New York are capitulating.
Obviously, no “science” changed. The politics did. So the politicians are frantically shifting gears and covering their tracks, like criminals destroying the evidence before the cops arrive. They have many more files to shred. But this is a start.
As when the Berlin Wall fell, the Covid collapse will be joyous. But, now as then, the reunification will be tough. And perhaps more difficult. People on each side of the wall at least longed to reunite. Those on either side of the Covid chasm want nothing to do with each other.
The scars run deep. Jobs were lost, careers destroyed, children damaged, friendships ended, families severed. Our “leaders” enticed and trained us not just to disagree with, but to despise, those with opposing views. It was the sinister fruit of an authoritarian tree.
And the roots run deep. In 1922, during period of tremendous turmoil and unprecedented upheaval, French philosopher Paul Valéry wrote:
“One can say that all the fundamentals of the world have been affected by the war. Or, more exactly, by the circumstances of the war; something deeper has been worn away than the renewable parts of the machine. Among all these injured things is the mind. The mind has indeed been cruelly wounded; its complaint is heard in the hearts of man; it passes a mournful judgment on itself. It doubts itself profoundly.”
A century later, fresh wounds have been inflicted, and new doubt instilled. They’ll remain a while. But it’s time to stanch the bleeding and apply the balm.
